Erlangen and Nuremberg both lie on major train routes and are served by long-distance ICE trains and regional trains. Erlangen‘s main train station is situated in the heart of the city and is linked to the regional and national railway networks. Timetables are available from Deutsche Bahn (www.db.de) and the local public transport provider VGN (www.vgn.de/en/maps/erlangen).
Tickets for the German train system can be purchased at the station just before departure, but during peak hours and holidays a ticket and seat reservation ahead of time is recommended. From the train station you can take a 10 minute taxi ride for about 10 € or a 15 to 20 minute bus ride for approximately 2 €.
Nuremberg International Airport is close to and directely connected to the city center of Nuremberg via subway where there are connections to trains and the public transport network.
To get from Nuremberg Airport to Erlangen South Campus (Südgelände) you can either take a taxi or the bus. It takes about 20 to 30 minutes to get to the Erlanger Südgelände by taxi and costs about 30-35 €. If you take the bus, the ride takes about 45 minutes and the ticket will cost you about 3-4 €. From Nuremberg Airport please take bus 33 to the station “Am Wegfeld“. From there please take bus 20 (direction “Erlangen Langemarckplatz“) or bus 30 (direction “Erlangen Hugenottenplatz“).
